ABA Therapy in Indianapolis

K1ds Count Therapy ABA is unique in its comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approach. Together the BCBA and RBT collaborate with the speech, occupational, and physical therapists in addition to our school transition team to help the child reach his or her highest potential.

What is ABA therapy?

ABA therapy applies treatment strategies to increase skills in core areas including speech and language, social, play, and daily living skills. In addition, through through a functional behavior assessment and creation of a behavior intervention plan, ABA helps to shape and change problem behaviors and provide the child and parent with tools for successful participation in home, school, and community activities.

Services Offered by Our ABA Therapy Team

Your Child's ABA Team

Your child’s team will consist of a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) as well as two primary registered behavior technicians (RBTs). The BCBA will oversee the child’s treatment, provide training and supervision to the RBTs, and meet with the parent regularly for training and collaboration. In addition, our KCT directors and related disciplines (ST, OT, PT, and mental health) work and serve together to help the child and family.

Speech, Language, and Communication

ABA focuses on speech, language, and functional communication training throughout the entire ABA therapy day. Your child’s ABA team will collaborate with your child’s KCT speech therapist weekly. Also, KCT is a LAMP Center of Excellence and will often use LAMP, speech communication devices, and other augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) modalities as a bridge to development of speech. In addition, our BCBAs benefit from collaboration with speech therapy on apraxia of speech and other diagnoses comorbid with autism.

Social and Play Skills

Play and social skills are also focused on throughout the therapy day. In therapy, children will progress through different milestones of play and social behavior, such as parallel, associative, collaborative, and imaginative play. Social language may be shaped from basic greetings and requests from adults and peers to more complex social conversation.

Activities of Daily Living

Activities of daily living important to the child and family may be targeted within the therapy day. These may include skills like toilet training, dressing, toothbrushing, and others. At KCT, the child’s BCBA can collaborate weekly with the child’s KCT occupational therapist on skills that are socially significant to the child and family.

Behavior

K1ds Count Therapy ABA seeks to understand a child’s individual interests, motivation as well as the function of behaviors that impede participation in activities across settings. Through this understanding of behavior and the application of ABA, we can help to shape and replace challenging behaviors in order for the child and family to enjoy meaningful activities at school, home, and in the community.

Groups and Classrooms

Each child receives 1:1 ABA therapy within small group settings with opportunities for large group time in a classroom like setting with a simulated “teacher” leading the group at least once per day. In addition to the social and classroom groups, during the ABA therapy day, the children may participate in structured gym, food group, language and learning group, and LAMP group.

Speech, OT, PT, and Mental Health

Children within the ABA therapy program may benefit from other services at KCT, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and/or mental health services. Our evaluations are interdisciplinary. During your child’s ABA evaluation, we will also assess the need for speech, occupational, and physical therapies. If you believe your child or family would benefit from mental health services, you may communicate with your BCBA who will help point you in the right direction for support and services.

School Transition Team

At K1ds Count Therapy, we begin looking at the transition plan to school starting on day one. Our KCT school transition team meets at least quarterly with the school systems surrounding our KCT centers. Our school transition team consists of a KCT SPED director, BCBA, other KCT leaders, parents, and the child’s school. The team ensures that a school plan is implemented at least one year prior to transition to ensure that all assessments and support needs are met.

Team Growth and Development

At K1ds Count Therapy, our LEAD Together leadership growth and development program provides a path for each team member from each discipline and team at KCT to grow and develop. Through unique continuing education opportunities our team members grow both clinically and professionally!
